Increase Covid vaccination pace: Union health secy writes to Delhi, 6 other states | India News – Times of India


NEW DELHI: Union health secretary Rajesh Bhushan has directed Delhi and six other states to increase the pace of vaccination, besides ensuring adherence to Covid-appropriate behaviour.
“The states should aim to increase the pace of vaccination for eligible populations, besides ensuring adherence to Covid-appropriate behaviour, following a five-fold strategy to combat the disease,” his letter to the health secretaries of Delhi, Kerala, Karnataka, Maharashtra, Odisha, Tamil Nadu and Telangana mentioned.
Though India saw an overall decline in the number of active Covid-19 cases in the last 24 hours, Delhi’s tally increased by 701 more infections, Karnataka’s by 336 and Telangans’s by 61 cases, according to the Union health ministry data updated on Saturday. Delhi’s jump in the number of active cases was highest in the country.
Also, Kerala, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu and Maharashtra have more 1o,000 active Covid cases as of now.
Overall the country reported 19,406 new infections in the last 24 hours, according to the Union health ministry.
With 19,928 recoveries in the last 24 hours, the number of active Covid-19 cases declined to 1,34,793 from previous day’s 1,35,364, said the Union health ministry.
