Microsoft rolls out Windows 11 2022 update: New features and more – Times of India

Microsoft, as promised, has started rolling out the Windows 11 2022 update globally. The update is now available to download in over 190 regions starting today. Also, it is the biggest update the operating system has received since its launch last year.
Windows 11 2022 update was slated to bring several new improvements and features to the operating system. Several of these features have been in testing for a while now. This includes tabs in File Explorer, safety and privacy improvements and more. Here’s a complete list of changes and improvements Windows 1 2022 update includes:
Tabs in File Explorer, updated Start Menu and more
Windows 11 2022 update brings the much-anticipated Tabs in File Explorer. Tabs in File Explorer allow users to open multiple folders at the same time similar to a web browser. This allows users to multitask without leaving File Explorer.
In addition to this, the update also brings tweaks to the Start Menu, better search integration, improvements to Quick Settings and better events coverage for Widgets.
The update also includes the new system-wide live captions feature that automatically generates captions from any audio or video content on Windows 11. Voice Access (preview) is also part of the update which lets users control their PC using their voice commands.
Privacy and security updates
Microsoft has introduced Smart App control to Windows 11 operating system with the latest update. The new Smart App control tool lets users install new apps and software without worries by blocking untrusted or unsigned applications, script files and malicious macros from running on Windows 11.
The company has also introduced the Defender app for Microsoft 365 Personal and Family subscribers. Also, Windows 11 users in the US can now also receive identity theft monitoring to keep their data safe.
Productivity improvements
Windows 11’s snap layouts have been updated with better touch controls and the ability to snap multiple browser tabs in Microsoft Edge. The company has also introduced the Focus sessions and Do Not Disturb. As a part of the new Focus sessions, it will automatically turn off the DND with that it will also silence the notifications, taskbar badges and app notifications in the taskbar. The Focus sessions is now also integrated with the Clock app which automatically launches a timer and sends reminders to take a break.
Calling experience
In addition to above-mentioned features, the company has also made some improvements to Windows Studio Effects, new creator tools, additional gaming features and updated Microsoft Store experience.
New video editor
Microsoft has also introduced Clipchamp as an inbox app with the update. This new video editor allows users to edit videos and also includes template, effects, etc.
New gaming features
Microsoft has ditched the Xbox Game Bar in favour of new Windows Controller bar. Apart from that, the company has also added support for better latency, Auto HDR, VRR in windowed mode and more.
