MotoGP comes to India! Set to be held at BIC, Greater Noida from 2023 onwards – Times of India

MotoGP, the pinnacle of two-wheeler racing is all set to come to India in 2023. MotoGP commercial rights owner Dorna Sports and Noida-based race promoters Fairstreet Sports on Wednesday signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to host the premier two-wheel racing event in India for the next seven years.
The event will be called ‘Grand Prix of Bharat‘, and will be held at the 5.125 km long Buddh International Circuit (BIC), located in Greater Noida, Uttar Pradesh. The Buddh International Circuit has previously also hosted the Formula 1 Indian Grand Prix consecutively from 2011 to 2013. While an official date hasn’t been confirmed yet, the organisers expect to rake in a slot for the 2023 season.
Carlos Ezpeleta, Managing Director, Dorna Sports, said “India is key to our scheme of taking MotoGP sport to new frontiers. Over the past decade, the MotoGP World Championship has gone from strength to strength, thanks to a competitive grid and a well-crafted set of rules. We look forward to gaining a wider fan base in India with the Grand Prix of Bharat.”
The promoters of the event also revealed that MotoGP has plans to introduce MotoE in the country as well, which will make it the first country in Asia to be a part of the electric motorcycle racing event. Dorna and FSS say that bringing MotoGP to India could generate as many as 50,000 jobs, with employment opportunities for around 5,000 people on the race weekend itself.
