Rajnath on 3-day visit to Egypt from today, will sign def MoU | India News – Times of India

NEW DELHI: Defence minister Rajnath Singh will head to Egypt on Sunday on a three-day official visit to explore new initiatives to intensify military-to-military engagements and focus on deepening cooperation between the defence industries of the two countries.
“Looking forward to holding discussions with my counterpart, General Mohamed Ahmed Zaki to further strengthen defence cooperation between both the countries,” Singh said on Saturday. India and Egypt, a country that links northeast Africa with West Asia, will ink an MoU “to provide further impetus to enhanced defence cooperation” during the visit, an official said. Singh will also call on President of Egypt Abdel Fattah Al-Sisi.
Egypt is among the several countries that has shown interest in acquiring arms produced by India, including the Akash missile systems capable of intercepting hostile aircraft, helicopters, drones and subsonic cruise missiles at a range of 25-km.
Singh’s visit also comes after the IAF had sent Sukhoi-30MKI fighters and C-17 Globemaster-III aircraft for a month-long “tactical leadership programme” to the Egyptian Air Force (EAF) Weapon School at the Cairo West Airbase in June-July.
“This was a first of its kind interaction for both the air forces as it was conducted between their respective fighter weapon schools. On behalf of the IAF, the Tactics and Air Combat Development Establishment (TACDE) participated in the programme with three Sukhoi-30MKI fighters and six combat instructor pilots,” an officer said. “IAF pilots flew alongside those of the EAF in missions of multiple complexities, with the participants also sharing their experiences in the art and science of air combat, while also discussing their best practices,” he added.
