Skoda Kushaq left-hand drive production commenced in India: Details – Times of India

Skoda Auto Volkswagen India on Monday announced the commencement of production of the LHD (left-hand drive) version of the Skoda Kushaq SUV. The company revealed that the made-in-India model will be exported to global markets.
Piyush Arora, Managing Director of SAVWIPL, said that the Kushaq has contributed significantly towards the success of the brand, as well as the VW Group in India. The Kushaq was the first model to be launched under the Group’s ‘India 2.0’ project. It is based on the heavily localised MQB A0 IN platform, which is also shared with the Volkswagen Taigun, Skoda Slavia and Volkswagen Virtus.
He also added that the Kushaq will showcase India’s manufacturing excellence on a global stage. The company says that it aims to make India an export hub for the Volkswagen Group globally. In February this year, Skoda Auto Volkswagen India had started exporting the Taigun to other markets, while the Virtus also followed the same route recently.
Talking about the India-spec Kushaq, it is offered with two different turbocharged petrol engine options. The smaller 1.0-litre 3-cylinder TSI motor puts out 115 PS of max power and 178 Nm of peak torque, while the latter is a 1.5-litre four-cylinder unit that produces 150 PS and 250 Nm. A 6-speed manual transmission is standard, while there’s also an optional 6-speed AT for the 1.0-litre TSI engine and a 7-speed DSG for the 1.5-litre TSI powertrain.
Skoda currently retails the Kushaq in India at a base price of Rs 11.29 lakh, which goes all the way up to Rs 19.49 lakh (both prices, ex-showroom) for the top-end trim. The SUV puts up against the likes of Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos, as well as its own cousin, the Volkswagen Taigun in India.
