Tata Tiago EV unveil on September 28th: Top things to know – Times of India


Tata Motors recently announced that the company will be expanding their EV lineup with the most anticipated fully electric version of the Tiago compact hatchback. The Tata Tiago EV is all set to make its official debut on September 28.
The Tiago EV was first showcased at the Auto Expo 2018 and was expected to hit the Indian roads by 2020. However, the manufacturer did not launch it.
Ahead of its unveil here are the top 5 things you should know about India’s cheapest all-electric car.
1. Design
Talking about the design of the Tiago EV, the car is expected to look similar to the ICE counterpart with redesigned front grille and front and back bumper. The car will also get blue accents over the grille, alloys and interior.
The Tata Tiago EV is expected to come with electric-themed styling tropes to differentiate it from the standard Tiago. It might Electric-specific Teal Blue shade with a tri-arrow design and the ‘humanity’ line grille similar to the Tigor EV.
2. Electric Motor
The Tata Tiago is currently available with petrol and CNG options, and now it soon gets an electric powertrain.
As of now, the company has not revealed any information about the car. Mechanically, Tiago EV is expected to be powered by a similar powertrain as the Tigor EV.
The electric is car is expected to come with an electric motor that puts out 74 bhp of power and 170 Nm of torque.
3. Battery and Range
The upcoming Tiago EV is expected to come with a 26 kWh battery similar to the Tigor EV.
The 26 kWh battery is expected to deliver around 300 kilometres against one full charge, which is an ideal scenario that should be over 225 km. The Tiago EV is expected to support DC fast charging that can juice up the battery from 0 to 80 per cent in around 60 minutes. A conventional 15 ampere AC charger, however, takes 8.5 hours to do the same.
Tata Motors might offer 8 years and 160,000 kilometres battery and motor warranty.
4. Interior and features
The Tiago EV will retain much of the look from its petrol variant. It’s expected to get a dark-toned interior with EV-themed colour detailing and electric blue accents around the instrument panel, AC vents and on-the-seat fabric with the stitching and tri-arrow pattern.
The Tata Tiago EV is expected to get a 7-inch touch screen boosted by Harman-Kardon stereo, Apple car play, Android Auto, 30+ connected features, and a suite of connectivity packages which can be seen in Tigor EV.
The Tiago EV will also feature a fully digital driver’s display.
5. Expected Price
When launched, the Tiago hatchback will be the most affordable electric hatchback in India and is likely to be priced under Rs 10 lakh. With the Mahindra e-Verito not available anymore, the Tigor EV is currently the most affordable four-wheeler EV in India, priced from Rs 12.49 lakh to Rs 13.64 lakh (ex-showroom).
Tata recently launched the new Nexon EV Max in the Indian market at Rs 17.74 lakh for the XZ+ variant and goes up to Rs 19.24 lakh for the top-spec Nexon EV Max XZ+ Lux. The Nexon EV Max offers an ARAI-certified range of 437km, thanks to its larger 40.5kWh battery pack.
